Akris Turns 90 with a Fashion Show at Saks

Akris celebrated its 90th anniversary with a week’s worth of parties at NYC hot spots. Last night’s fĂȘte was held at Saks Fifth Avenue, in partnership with Neue Galerie. Gussied-up enthusiasts of the Swiss brand (but sadly no Princess Charlene of Monaco) came out to view an in-store fashion show, featuring looks from the label’s fall 2012 collection.

Saks CEO Steve Sadove attended along with his wife, who he admitted is an Akris devotee. “Not many brands in our industry make it to 90 years,” he said. “If you look at [the clothes], you can see that the workmanship is clearly at a superior level. These aren’t the clothes that you throw away; these are clothes that last.”

When each model came down the catwalk, the quality of the threads was evident. Every piece included a unique element—a special seam, an advanced textile, or expert tailoring.

Albert Kriemler, Akris’s creative director, received glowing reviews from fans. “New York has always been very good to me,” he noted. “I first came here when I was 19 years old. I felt that one day, when my collections played a role in the world, New York would be a great city for my ideas. I think the feeling was mutual.”
