2011 Top 10 Footballers In
Sports Pundit’s series of reviews of the past 12 months continues with a look at the footballers who stared around the globe in 2011.

Emerged as one of the Premier League’s genuine superstars in 2011, with some irresistable form for Arsenal late in the year. Struggled with injuries for long parts in 2010, but upon his return he fired plenty of goals to finish the 2010-11 campaign with 18 strikes. He’s kept that up in style.
9. Luis Suarez (Liverpool)
The striker’s greatest success for the 2011 calendar year was with his nation Uruguay at the Copa America where he was integral to them lifting the silverware. Also began to dazzle fans at Anfield, but has had his off-field issues.
8. David Villa (FC Barcelona)
One of many Barcelona players on this list, the Spain international forward scored 18 goals as his side won La Liga as well as four strikes in the Uefa Champions League. Villa is a fine finisher and the perfect fit for Barcelona, after his move from Valencia the season prior.
7. Thiago Silva (AC Milan)
A key component in his side’s run to the Italian title and an oft-forgotten hero for that side, given their defensive resilience. Deserves more credit.
6. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Rooney had his issues in 2010 but found his feet in 2011, with some scintillating displays for his club on their way to the Uefa Champions League final, which he scored in, and the English Premier League title. He may not score as many goals as he used to, but he’s a creative influence crucial to his side.
5. Andres Iniesta (FC Barcelona)
Iniesta did have his injury problems during the year, but when fit always produced sublime football to the betterment of his side who won the league and European Champions League double. The Spaniard’s wonderful and intricate play is always a pleasure to watch.
4. Gerard Pique (FC Barcelona)
One of the best defenders in the world and another key to Barca’s success. Pique is able to play out from the back which gives his side such drive. His aerial prowess is a big feature too.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
The Portuguese had an unbelievable season individually at Real Madrid, winning the Pichichi award but his side fell short in the title race. Ronaldo did net the winner in extra-time in the Copa del Rey and was truly sensational and unstoppable at times.
2. Xavi (Barcelona)
Another stellar year for the Spanish midfielder who was integral to his side’s successes this term. Xavi is the unsung hero for Barcelona but his quality is obvious when you see him first hand with his passing range and vision second to none.
1. Lionel Messi (Barcelona Jersey)
The Argentine did it all again with Barcelona, helping them lift the Uefa Champions League with a crucial goal in the final against Manchester United. Messi also guided Barca to a stunning La Liga triumph while he scored an incredible number of goals during the calendar year. He added plenty of assists too, topping Spain’s assists table.

The non-profit organization that works with education projects in the Middle East, will replace the famous unicef logo that has become an iconic part of Barcelona's jerseys.
he arrival of the Qatar Foundation sponsor will not please the Barcelona romantics who have witnessed the club refute valuable shirt sponsor temptations throughout Barca's 111 year history. While financial necessities have been met, the Catalan club maintain their uniqueness by featuring the unicef logo on the back of their new 11/12 Nike Jerseys.
Aesthetically, the new Barcelona Jersey is noticeably different. In contrast to this seasons, the new Barcelona home shirt features a new stripe execution with nine red stripes that narrow from the upper right to lower left of the jersey.
Yellow coloring has been removed from the round-neck collar as well as the sleeves. The solid sleeves are now completely blue while the collar appears in the classic red.

Packed with history and tradition, Barcelona shirts continue to provide an emblem for the most exciting football played in the world. The look may be different, but the message remains the same. AC Milan VS Barcelona: Champions League Betting Preview
- Author: Soccer Jerseys
- Sport: Soccer
- Genre: Betting
Both AC Milan and Barcelona Jersey have already qualified from Champions League Group H but the current holders need to be backed on Wednesday.
The San Siro hosts this clash of the two European heavyweights but their is a gulf in class and Milan were fortunate on Matchday 1 to escape from Spain with a point.
A last minute Thiago Silva equaliser in a 2-2 draw earned the Serie A side parity but Barca were dominant throughout and should be able to cope without the services of the injured Andreas Iniesta.
Pep Guardiola has such strength in midfield that Iniesta’s absences will barely be noticed and Barca will be looking to inflict more pain on a Milan side that have a very mixed record in this competition on home soil in recent years.
Wins this season over BATE and Plzen were expected but it was just one triumph in their previous nine Champions League fixtures at the famous stadium and Tottenham, Ajax, Manchester United, Arsenal and FC Zurich have all triumphed at the San Siro in the last four seasons.
Barcelona themselves have sometimes failed to fire away from home in years gone by but 4-0 and 5-0 thrashings of the Czechs and Belarusians respectively indicates they are over their travel sickness and this is brilliant Barca we mustn’t forget.
Aiming to become the first club to successfully defend the Champions League trophy, the Catalans have not lost a competitive fixture since a surprise 2-1 reversal at Real Sociedad in April and once again will call upon the services of the majestic Lionel Messi.
With 24 goals in 19 matches this season (astonishing), Messi has cemented his place as the leading player of his generation, probably of all time, and if there is one man you want on your side when the cash is down it’s the Argentine.
Milan don’t have anybody near the calibre of the Barcelona number 10, not many do, and, given their overall record, quotes of 1.80 about an away win seems reasonable to me.

How to buy a Authentic Soccer Jerseys
This Blog is about soccer merchandise and buying (and collecting) soccer merchandise. While I will probably focus on Soccer Jerseys most of the time, discussions on soccer books, soccer dvds, other soccer apparel, soccer equipment and (of course) Soccer Cleats are not out of the question. I am willing to go wherever the postings and feedback take us. I welcome any and all feedback to my postings and am sure that we will both come away learning a little bit in the process.
I am founder and manager of SOCCERJERSEYSCITY.com and over the years have owned and operated a number of soccer specialty retail shops. Our current business is very much focused on International Licensed Soccer Products (or replica jerseys), but I also have quite a bit of experience with the more traditional US Soccer Marketplace (eg. shoes, team orders, etc). We maintain a network of independent suppliers worldwide as well as the big soccer brands here in the USA.
So, why would you be interested in any of this? Good question. If you are a casual soccer fan, or have just discovered the game, or perhaps looking for information on buying a soccer jersey as a gift for someone, then I should be able to steer you away from some of the pitfalls and clear up some of the confusion about buying a soccer jersey. For instance: What is the difference between authentic, official and replica soccer jerseys? I saw this jersey listed eBay for $30....is it official? Where can I look for an official RONALDINHO Barcelona jersey? etc, etc.
If you are a real fan of soccer jerseys or a collector, then you already know the answers to all those questions. But what I would like promote with you, is a discussion about any news regarding sponsor changes, new jerseys designs, official printing and patches and any new stores or websites that are doing a good job with International Soccer Jerseys. I know there are a lot of you jersey "fanatics" out there...because I talk and email a lot of you in the course of business with SOCCERJERSEYSCITY.com. I'm betting that I can learn a lot from all of you, and hopefully I can impart some useful information from the retailers perspective.
Finally, I would really like to get some feedback on any topics that you would like to see covered in this space. I have the first few already lined up, but as I mentioned above, I'll go wherever the comments and feedback takes us. I'd also like to make it clear that while I am affiliated with SOCCERJERSEYSCITY.com and this blog will be sponsored by them, I am more than willing to discuss other shops and online stores. It would be great if all of you shopped at my site, but there are also a lot of other sites and shops out there that do a good job (and some that don't)...we can talk and link to any of them. Thanks for reading!

Vossen adds to Chelsea woes have its reason
Chelsea were forced to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw against Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday as the Blues' turbulent season suffered another setback. Andre Villas-Boas' side desperately needed a win at the Cristal Arena to ease the pain of a miserable week that started with a stormy defeat against QPR, featuring allegations that John Terry racially abused Hoops defender Anton Ferdinand, and ended having a shocking 5-3 loss at home to Arsenal. The Blues had been on course to restore the feel-good factor when Ramires fired them into a first half lead, but David Luiz Soccer Jerseys missed a penalty just before half-time and Jelle Vossen produced him spend having a second half equaliser. Chelsea squandered several probabilities to snatch a winner and, although they nonetheless lead Group E by two points from Bayer Leverkusen, they require at least one much more win from their last two games to reach the last 16. England captain Terry strongly denies the racism accusations however the FA have launched a probe and the Metropolitan Police are also investigating the allegations after a complaint from a member of the public. To make matters worse for Terry, Villas-Boas decided to take his skipper out of the limelight after a Barcelona Jersey display against Arsenal and he was consigned to the bench alongside Frank Lampard and Juan Mata. Even without that trio and also the injured Didier Drogba, Chelsea were firm favourites to beat the Belgian champions, who had been crushed 5-0 by the Blues last month. But Chelsea's defending has been unusually slack lately and they had been nearly caught out when Khaleem Hyland, left totally unmarked, headed straight at Petr Cech.
Villas-Boas's side gradually found some momentum and took the lead with their first incisive attack within the 25th minute. Ramires surged forward from halfway inside the Genk half and played the ball into Fernando Torres. Torres clipped a clever return pass between two defenders for Brazil midfielder Ramires to fire low past Laszlo Koteles from a tight angle for his initial Champions League goal. Ramires's goal sparked Chelsea into life. Torres drove a long-range effort just wide and Ramires headed wide prior to Raul Meireles hit the bar having a thunderous strike from 25 yards. The Real Madrid Long Sleeve Jersey should have been further ahead just prior to half-time as Thomas Buffel gave away a penalty having a needless handball from Florent Malouda's cross. Luiz stepped up for the spot-kick within the absence of regular taker Lampard, however the Brazilian defender's shot was pushed away by Koteles. Chelsea's confidence seemed to become shaken by Luiz's miss and Genk were well on leading following the break. The hosts threatened when Kennedy Kwanganga pounced on a miscued shot from Anthony Vanden Borre, only for Cech to save with his chest. Chelsea were unable to stem the tide of Genk pressure and Mario Been's side equalised in the 61st minute. Not for the very first time this season, Chelsea's defending let them down as Fabien Camus burst through on the left and pulled a cross back for the unmarked Vossen to shoot past Cech. Villas-Boas sent on Lampard, Daniel Sturridge and Mata as he looked to snatch a winner, but he was cursing again in the 72nd minute when Meireles squandered a glorious chance, heading straight at Koteles from ten yards out. Incredibly, Lampard missed an even better opportunity when he side-footed Sturridge's cross wide from point-blank range. The Blues would have returned house empty-handed but for Cech, who produced a good quit within the closing moments to deny Anthony Limbombe.

Arsenal 3 - 1 West Brom
Arsenal led 2-0 at the break through Van Persie's tap-in along with a Thomas Vermaelen shot from Van Persie's pass, despite not being at their fluent best.
But the Gunners dominated the 2nd period against a West Brom side who only managed one effort on target.
And Mikel Arteta's fine strike sealed the victory after a sweeping move.
Arteta's classy 15-yard effort into the bottom corner, after some fine build-up play which twice involved the hugely impressive Van Persie, Air Jordan 2011 was minimal the hosts deserved for his or her second-half dominance.
While the Baggies played with plenty of effort and endeavour throughout, and may consider themselves unfortunate to become trailing 2-0 to the only two likelihood of the first period, they can don't have any argument using the end result.
Lone forward Simon Cox was lively and dangerous but lacked support as well as their only effort on target didn't come before the 86th minute when Steven Reid's header was easily saved by home keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Graham Dorrans also twice scuffed low efforts wide after the interval however the second half was a procession of Arsenal attacks as West Brom's solid resistance was broken.
The platform was laid prior to the break when Van Persie followed up from close range after Theo Walcott's initial shot from Arteta's pass was saved.
And, following Alex Song's cross-field pass, the superb Vermaelen added another from Van Persie's exquisite cut-back.
The Gunners, whose last league outing was their stunning make an impression on Chelsea, Barcelona Jersey completely dominated after the interval with Aaron Ramsey and Arteta bossing the midfield.
Belgian centre-half Vermaelen - buoyed by his first goal in almost two years - nearly made it 3-0 soon after the break but his header from Van Persie's corner, went a fraction wide.
Gervinho, Ramsey and Song also all went near to adding to the lead before Arteta's strike brought Arsenal's 13th goal within their last four league wins over Stoke, Bolton and Chelsea.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger:
"The spirit of the squad was right from the first to last minute. We worked well together and I always was positive with the team because 30 days ago we were in a very bad situation.
"You felt there's a desire to prosper and now it goes better it's still there. This team really wants to improve, wants to strive and really wants to improve and. That is the most satisfying aspect.
"They didn't switch off when they led 2-0 and that's not necessarily the situation. Overall it was a controlled performance. We had complete domination.
"We are getting stronger. We scored five goals last week, three goals today and didn't concede, so overall it is a very positive afternoon."
West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson:
"Arsenal deserved to win. They played very, perfectly. 2nd goal came in the wrong some time and at 2-0 with Arsenal in their current mood and form, they were able to experience that and relax. But we stuck to the guns but we lost towards the better team.
"We place in one hell of the shift and I thought we'd to because i was facing an excellent Arsenal team in form, who were rampant.
"You could accuse of lacking a little bit of quality sometimes, might accuse us of, Custom Soccer Jerseys in the first half, playing the ball forward too early. You could accuse us of those things and I might accept you, only one thing I will certainly not agree with you would be that the players did not include a shift."

Exeter's second string, containing Argentina World Cup man Camacho and Nic Sesteret on the wings, won well against Bath's reserves on Monday.

"It's not written in stone and I think you've got to keep working as a player at the weekend and as a player off the field," Custom Soccer Jerseys said the former Launceston and Cornish Pirates winger.
"The pressures are there week-in, week-out. It's just how you deal with that."
